How to use Apple Cider Vinegar

Updated: Sep 29, 2023

Ever wonder what items are inside of a nutritionist's pantry?

One of my #1 staples is Apple Cider Vinegar due to its great digestive benefits! Apple Cider Vinegar helps support healthy levels of stomach acid which reduces bloating and indigestion.

When purchasing ACV make sure it contains the "Mother"-cloudy stringy blobs which tell you the ACV contains the good bacteria and enzymes that provide the digestive benefits you are looking for.

Some of my favourite ways to use ACV include:

  • In a glass of water first thing each morning

  • As a salad vinaigrette

  • As a hair rinse-works great for removing build up from hard water!

  • In a fruit and veggie wash-for its anti-bacterial properties.

Anna's Apple Cider Vinegar Morning Drink

  • 2 tsp ACV in half cup of water.

Drink first thing each morning to help flush out toxins, kickstart your digestion before breakfast and reduce gas and bloating throughout the day.

Honey Mustard Salad Vinaigrette

For my vinaigrette base I use one part ACV to three parts oil. ACV can be substituted for another acid such as lemon juice or balsamic vinegar. I do lots of different variation on this dressing but honey mustard is one of my favourites!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar

  • 3 Tbsp Olive Oil (Or Avacado Oil)

  • 2 tsp Dijon Mustard

  • 2 tsp Honey

  • 1 small garlic clove

Mix all ingredients in a blender or shaker cup. Toss over salad or roasted veggies and enjoy!

Basic Hair Rinse

This hair rinse helps remove hard water buildup that can leave hair feeling sticky or looking dull. Use 1-2 times a week for soft and shiny hair.

  • 1.5 cups filtered water

  • 2 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar

  • (Optional) 4-5 drops essential oil (I like to use rosemary to help support hair growth or lavender to help prevent dandruff.)

Use hair rinse after shampooing. Massage in like you would shampoo. Let sit for a couple minutes then rinse ACV mixture out before towel drying. I find once my hair dries the vinegar smell goes away.

Fruit and Veggie Wash

Cover produce with water and add 2 Tbsp of ACV. Soak for about 10 minutes. Rinse well with fresh water.

Works well to help remove pesticides, bacteria and dirt from fresh produce.
